Peter Llewellyn
Level 2 IPTPA & IPTPA CRS-4 (Certified rating specialist)
-
I have been involved with sport throughout my life; first as an international swimmer then a high-level squash player. When my competitive days in both sports ended, I coached swimming to national level and taught and coached squash. I remained involved in high level sport throughout my career as an International Sports Photographer covering events throughout the world including professional and amateur sports including multiple Olympic Games.
Recognizing that anyone can play pickleball, I’ve instructed people of all ages and abilities, but one of the most rewarding experiences, to date, has been teaching a group of Special Olympic athletes. Description text goes here

NCCP Level 1 Coaching Certification
-
I’ve been playing pickleball since 2020 and Lead coaching for the past two years with the Cochrane Pickleball Club (Skills and Strategies). I hold an NCCP Level 1 Coaching Certification, carry a 4.25 DUPR rating, and earned a Gold Medal in the 2025 Provincial 4.0 Mixed Doubles Championship (ages 55–59).
I’m passionate about helping new and developing players build both their skills and understanding of the game. My coaching approach focuses not only on how to improve, but also on explaining why specific strategies, techniques, and decisions matter in pickleball.
Outside the court, I bring more than 31 years of experience with the Calgary Fire Department, where I currently serve as a District Chief. Throughout my career, I’ve designed, implemented, and delivered training programs for adult learners across a wide range of disciplines.
-
I also have more than 10 years of experience coaching youth hockey and baseball. I combine that background with a positive, supportive, and goal-oriented coaching style that helps players gain confidence, enjoy the game, and continue progressing.

Rob Rennie
NCCP Level 1 Pickleball Instructor
-
Rob’s passion for pickleball began in January 2022 when he first played with his wife, Kristy. He quickly discovered that the sport was far more challenging than its name suggested. As a competitive athlete who enjoys skiing, golf, hockey, tennis, and volleyball, Rob expected to excel quickly. After all, how hard could it be to hit a wiffle ball with an oversized ping pong paddle?
He soon found out. In one of his first games, he was thoroughly “pickled” by an elderly mixed doubles team wearing knee braces, who had him running around the court completely outmatched. Although humbled, Rob immediately recognized how fun, engaging, and incredibly social the sport was. Unlike any other sport he had played, pickleball offered a unique sense of community alongside competition.
Determined to improve, Rob began taking lessons from experienced instructors to better understand the game. Through coaching, he learned shot techniques, game strategy, and the importance of drilling to develop consistency and skill. Along the way, he also discovered how much he enjoyed introducing the sport to friends and family and watching them develop the same passion for the game.
Encouraged by the positive feedback he received, Rob completed the Level 1 NCCP coaching program so he could introduce pickleball to a broader range of people looking for an active and enjoyable sport.
-
Rob has since competed and medaled in numerous tournaments, including the 2025 Alberta Provincial Championships, where he earned bronze in the 4.5+ mixed doubles event and silver in the 4.0 men’s doubles event. He continues to work on improving his game and looks forward to introducing the sport to many future passionate picklers.

IPTPA Level II Instructor and Director (one level up from Level II)
-
I am an IPTPA Level II Instructor and Director (one level up from Level II) and teach mostly in Calgary, but have also
conducted clinics in British Columbia, Nova Scotia, the UK, Mexico, and Peace River, Alberta.
Prior to discovering and embracing the very fun but challenging sport of pickleball I was a competitive level doubles and
singles squash player (Gold medal in the 2005 World Masters Games A bracket) and prior to that a competitive badminton
player at the national level (many years ago!)
In the past several years I have focused mainly on intermediate and advanced level coaching and really enjoy the
challenge of taking players’ games from 3.5 to 4.0 and 4.0+. I maintain a safe, instructive, friendly environment in all my
lessons and clinics, with the end goal of participants increasing their knowledge and skills and having fun while doing so.
-
My enthusiasm for any pursuit I take on seems to eventually lead to my teaching it and I’ve enjoyed very positive feedback
and results from the many and varied clinics, workshops, and lessons I’ve taught. I am passionate about the art of
instructing and coaching and am a life-long learner in this regard, constantly upgrading my own skills and techniques to
remain ahead of the curve in coaching pickleball.
